Every 72 note movement is designed to play three different tunes
or one tune in three parts. A 72 note movement can either play three
different tunes (with each tune playing up to 44 seconds) or one tune
playing three parts consecutively (for a total of up to 132 seconds).
Each revolution of the cylinder will play one tune (or part of a tune).
After
each revolution, the cylinder shifts horizontally and
the next tune or part is ready to play. Each of the three revolutions
of the cylinder can play for about 30 - 44 seconds. Thus the full playing
time would range from 90 to 132 seconds (3 X 30 = 90, 3 X 44 = 132).
